Attendance

1.   The class day for students in the Pre-Kindergarten (3K & 4K) classes is from 8:00 AM until 3:00 PM .  Elementary (Kindergarten – 7th) class day is 8:00 AM until 3:15 PM .

2.   A student arriving at school after 10:00 AM or leaving before 2:00 PM will be considered absent for a half day. Students must be in attendance a minimum of 2 hours during the morning or afternoon to be considered in attendance for that portion of the day.

3.   Ten (10) or more absences during a semester are considered excessive and may result in the student having to attend remedial classes during the summer or repeating the current grade level.

4.   Excessive absence cases will be decided on an individual basis.

5.   Awards for attendance will be given out at the end of the year.

Leaving During the Day

To take a student out of school during the day, parents should send a note to the homeroom teacher at the start of the day stating the reason and time of departure.  A sign-in and sign-out sheet is to be filled out by the parent in the school office when a student arrives late or is dismissed early. Students will not be dismissed until the parent arrives at school to sign out the child.

Absence Reporting

Students must be in school by 10:00 AM in order to be considered present for attendance purposes.

Students must be in attendance ½ of the school day in order to participate in school-related activities on that day or evening.

It is the policy of the school to contact the parents of students who are absent and who have not informed the school. Therefore, parents are asked to notify the school prior to 8:30 AM if the child is absent. If a child is absent, a note from the parent must be sent when the child returns to school, including Pre-Kindergarten.  The note should state the reason for the absence.  A child may not be absent from school more than three (3) consecutive days without a doctor’s permit.

This note should contain:

·        Full name

·        Dates absent

·        Specific reason for each day (flu, measles, etc.)

·        Parent signature and phone number

Absences are classified as either excused or unexcused. An excused absence allows the student to make up work missed. An unexcused absence is one in which the school office has not been notified in writing prior to or upon the student’s return to classes. With an excused absence, it is the responsibility of the student to check with each of his/her teachers to see what work needs to be made up. The number of days absent will determine how many days are allowed for make-up work.

If a note was not received within 48 hours of an absence, the absence will be considered unexcused. A principal may require a physician’s verification of an illness at anytime.
